Firefox Java Plugin on Linux

JRE Version: 1.6.0_07

Firefox version: 2.0.0.14

One of the most common problem that you might encounter is you can’t get your firefox showing Java content correctly.  Only a few steps are needed to get that working:

 

1. Go to www.java.com to get the latest JRE and install it. 

2. I have extracted the JRE at /usr.  The java plugin for firefox is at:

/usr/jre1.6.0_07/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Symbolic link it to the Firefox library folder:

ln -s /usr/jre1.6.0_07/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.14/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

3. Restart the firefox and see if you can see the Duke logo dancing at the following link:

http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
