I have done this little trick at home and reason is to save energy and doesn't want to have my wireless network always on at home. With this little trick, now I am managed to on / off my IOS AP with a single click. :)

Shutting the radios down on a Cisco AP saves very little power. Would you be better off shutting down the PoE switch port (assuming you are using one) with the button?
Longer time to become active but a far more substantial power saving.

Yes that's a good idea, unfortunately that is an embedded AP inside my 892 router.
