IP Phone Factory Reset

This little trick can help you come across frustrating period, like the phone keeps rebooting without any reason....

Step 1 Unplug the power cable from the phone and then plug it back in.

The phone begins its power up cycle.

Step 2 While the phone is powering up, and before the Speaker button
flashes on and off,

press and hold #.

Continue to hold # until each line button flashes on and off in sequence
in amber.

Step 3 Release # and press 3491672850*#.

You can press a key twice in a row, but if you press the keys out of
sequence, the factory reset will not take place.

After you press these keys, the line buttons on the phone flash red and
the phone goes through the factory reset process.

Do not power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process
and the main screen appears.

Here is a link to Cisco's procedure to reset IP Phone to the Factory Defaults:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a00800941bb.shtml

The procedure exactly the same, but the digits sequence is different (and easier to remember:

123456789*0#

Have to try at work, if these procedures provide different results.

Thanks Mike. I've tried my number sequence 3491672850# (and frankly speaking I use it quite often when the firmware upgrades fail and get stuck in the middle) and it works fine. Haven't tried your sequence
123456789*0# and will give a try when I have a chance to.

Checked with older phone sets, (i hv tried 7960), your sequence is correct. For newer phone sets (i have tried 7970G, 7965G, 7961G), the correct sequence is mine one :)

The 349... should the firmware on the phone basic to the factory default. The 123... just clears the configuration files off the phone (good for when the phone just won't give up it's old config files).
